Have you ever wondered exactly what your 3rd grade students should know and be able to do? Or for that matter, what your 5th or 8th grade students should know or be able to do? I did, and for many years I used my ‘better’ judgement to set my own standards at each grade level. I was thrilled when the California Standards in Dance came out. Finally there was something I could use as a guideline for my students.
I have now been able to develop a much stronger and sequential dance program at my school. My students have a much clearer understanding of what is expected of them and therefore are more successful in achieving those expectations. I can’t wait until a few more years go by and I can really see the growth in the students.
