This project is finished. But read my responses to the questions of other users in the Recent topics area.
Because there is so little dance in the elementary grades, many students come to high school with very little prior knowledge. After working with the standards for a few years, I have discovered that the difference between grade levels is not so much the standard itself, but the degree of proficiency of the student. If we can keep that in mind, and still teach to the standards, we will see that the students will progress very quickly and will soon be at grade level.
I have taught the same lesson to third grade as I have to adults and both with equal success. Each age group had a different degree of understanding, but was successful at their own level. I don’t think we should be discouraged by our students’ lack of prior knowledge as they will rise to the occasion.
