Dance-related internships
| Question from Kaita: I have been trying to find dance internships or dance-related jobs this summer and am becoming very frustrated! I am a double major in Dance and Psychology at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. I hope to someday be a dance therapist. Where can I look for summer opportunities, and what can I do to make my resume stand out? I feel that my chances of getting internships are pretty slim, please give me any advice that you can! |
Nicole's response: Dear Readers,
Popularity is a wonderful thing -- but can you have too much of it? In the remaining few months of the Ask an Artist feature's life-span, we’ve been delighted with an unforeseen rise in the volume of questions received on our dance pages. Unfortunately, with the suspension of the Ask an Artist feature, some of your questions regretfully must remain unanswered for the present. I hope that some of the advice and resources referred to in this column might be helpful to those of you whose questions I was not able to answer. I also heartily recommend my own tried-and-true research methods to all of you: shamelessly go forth and ask questions of anyone who might specialize in the area you're curious about, and search the web like mad.
One resource site I heartily recommend is Artslynx (www.artslynx.org). It comprises a huge index of arts links which include "Dance Links, Ballet Links, and other resources organized into accessible link libraries. The Dance pages from Artslynx attempt to allow users to easily navigate to the many amazing dance link libraries available online, but where we find gaps, Artslynx aims to fill them with it's own original set of dance and ballet resources. All links are screened for high-quality content." An indispensable resource for those searching for answers to their burning dance questions!
With the best of luck to all of you as you pursue your dance dreams,
Nicole
