A Guide to TeachingArts
TeachingArts.org was created to provide teachers, students, parents and artists, working in the schools, with access to a variety of resources on the World Wide Web.
From the Home Page users can access timely information such as monthly updates from the CDE, current grant information, and special events or news. Links are also found to the California Visual and Performing Arts Standards, Special Interest Groups and to the Virtual Arts Center.
Users can view student work/performances in the Virtual Arts Center. View the performances by clicking on the Virtual Arts Center, and choosing one of the Arts Disciplines to enter the center further.
Click on a performance title to view that performance. QuickTime is needed to view the video clips of the performances. Text information is provided to give further information or a description of the performance.
Resources on the web are divided into seven categories and by the four arts disciplines. There are two pathways to the resources.
One pathway is through the discipline tabs at the top of the page.
Select an arts discipline from the four tabs, dance, music, theatre or visual arts. The tabs will indicate the discipline you have chosen - those above show that we are in Dance.
Select a category from the sidebar on the main page of the discipline, by clicking on a folder.
This will reveal the subcategories of information.
Click on a folder to select a subcategory, which will produce a list of links with brief descriptions.
Click on the globe icon to select a link and a record will now be visible. The record will provide additional information on the site, such the author or responsible party and any additional plug ins needed to effectively use the site.
Click on the URL at the top of the record to go to the actual web site.
A second pathway to the resources is to use the categories from the sidebar on the home page.
Select a category by clicking on the folder.
Next select an arts discipline.
Now choose a subcategory to get the list of links.
View the list of links with brief descriptions and click on a link.
The record will now be visible, giving additional information on the internet site.
Click on the URL at the top of the record to go to the chosen web site.
A general note to users about the icons is that a folder indicates more information is contained inside that category and a globe indicates a direct link to a record or an internet site.
A Search feature will be available on the site soon.
