HECTOR ARISTIZABAL is co-founder of the Center for Theater of the Oppressed Applied Theater in Los Angeles, as well as the Colombian Peace Project and the Colombian Children’s Peace Fund. Aristizabal works as a film, television and stage actor and director in Los Angeles, and has over twenty years of experience in theater as a director, actor, writer and drama teacher with both children and adults of different cultural backgrounds. With grants from the California Arts Council and Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, he has taught at the Sycamores Family Center in Pasadena, Performing Tree, and the Latino Cultural Academy, among others. For over 16 years he has been involved with community organizations, creating and implementing strategies to prevent violence, drug addition and all type of abuse. His process of personal and political transformation is based on Agusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed. These techniques served as therapeutic practice, community development, and agent of change in his recent residency at the Program for Victims of Torture. Aristizabal is a certified Marriage Family Therapist, and received a Masters in Psychology at University of Medellin in Antioquia, Columbia.
